|7 DAYS||THE BIG CATS||SOUTH AFRICA|
Open to the western edge of Kruger National Park, south to the Sabi Sands Game Reserve and playing host to Africa's Big Five is Motswari Private Game Reserve. One of South Africa's jewels nestled within the Timbavati Nature Reserve, this family-owned and operated luxury safari lodge prides itself on its warm atmosphere and luxurious accommodation.The name Motswari means "to conserve and protect" in Tswana and the owners have held the name to be a promise to each of their future friends who arrive to share in the splendor of an African sunset at this vintage bush lodge. A huge Highlight and at the top of the wishlist of “ The Big Cats “ photographic safari is The Xakubasa Pride which is the name of the most special pride of lions in the Timbavati, and the name says it all. ‘Basa’ means ‘white’ in Shangaan, and as such Xakubasa is a reference to the two extremely rare and special white lions that are part of this pride that we hope to track, find and photograph although it will be a very hard task as a sighting of these rare cats cannot be guaranteed. Leopards are very abundant in this area so there will be plenty of photographic opportunities of these elusive felines. This area is arguably the best place in the world for leopard photography.
Your safari starts in Johannesburg after a good night sleep in a selected airport hotel. You will be transferred to OR Tambo Intn’l from where you will depart on a 1hr 15 min light aircraft charter flight to Timbavati’s private airstrip.
A typical day at Motswari will include and early morning Game Drive ( 3.5 hours ) followed by a hearty brunch. Then it’s time relax at until lunch time or meet with your safari leader who will be available during this time to discuss photo techniques and review images. Lunch at 15:00 and then some more time to relax, work on images or meet again with your safari leader for more photography talk . At approximately 16:00 we will depart on our evening game drive until the sun goes down. At our return to the lodge dinner will be ready to finish off a perfect day. All times are flexible and will depend on sightings.
