We are rewarded after a steep but steady climb up
grasslands today with superb views before leaving
the vegetation behind and arriving at our next camp
(4330m) by mid-afternoon. We camp beneath the
stunning spires of Mawenzi peak that glisten in the
sunrise and their jaggedness is awesome.

across volcano scree as we ascend the crater wall of
Kibo and arrive to Gilman’s Point (5685m). After a
short rest, we continue on to Stellar Point for the
sunrise that awakens East Africa. From here it is a
2-3 hour round trip, passing by glaciers and ice
fields as we skirt the rim of the crater to reach

descend to Kibo for brunch and a short rest before
continuing on to our final camp (3720m).
